From Orlando, the most direct route is I-4 west to the US 441 exit, then north through the lake country. The Florida’s Turnpike is faster for those coming from the south or the coast; take it to the Leesburg exit and double back east on SR 46. From the coast, the two-lane roads through the lake country are slower but infinitely more rewarding. The interstate will get you there, but it will not tell you anything about where you are.

For rail, the nearest Amtrak stations are in Sanford and Altamonte Springs, both roughly 20 miles away. From there, a rental car or rideshare is the final leg. There is no direct train service into Mount Dora itself.

Beyond Mount Dora: Day Trips for the Already-Arrived

Once you have seen the lighthouse—the 35-foot structure at Grantham Point, dedicated on 25 March 1988, the only inland freshwater lighthouse in Florida—there is a wider circuit of towns within an hour's drive, each with its own festival calendar.

The busiest times are the festival weekends in February and October, when the parking situation in the historic downtown is best described as competitive. The lake remains the original entrance. The lighthouse at Grantham Point has marked it since 1988. However you arrive, the plateau waits—184 feet of Florida that should not exist, performing exactly as it always has.
