For something longer, the Mount Dora Trail (1550 E 11th Ave) runs 4.8-rated, 616-review strong along an old rail corridor. Flat, straight, and mercifully shaded in parts. Good for a morning jog with a dog who thinks jogging is a personal insult. Dogs are tolerated, not celebrated, but the aisles are wide and the shade is free. Thirsty work

Downtown, the patios are the draw. Mount Dora’s charm is real but managed. The median age here is 48.8 years, and the 8,121 housing units include 500 held for seasonal use—so the sidewalks fill with weekenders, and the locals know it. The Arts Festival takes over downtown the first full weekend of February, and that weekend is no time for a dog. Come in March or October instead.

Bring water. Bring bags. Skip the downtown sidewalks at noon. The town has been selling itself as a resort since the Alexander House opened in 1883—184 feet above sea level, on a plateau Florida was not supposed to have. Your dog does not care about any of that. Your dog cares about the next park, the next patio, the next mile of trail.
